For version 3.1.x sites can we upgrade our T3 versions?

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

For Joomla 3.x templates, I noticed that the various T3 templates all state they are built with different versions of T3. What I am wondering is whether we can update them to the latest T3 versions or if we are required to stay with the T3 version that ships with the template.

For ZenGridFramework I would always try to keep up-to-date.

In particular I am considering using Inspire which uses T3 v. 1.2.1 and I am wondering if once I install this if I should then upgrade the T3 to the latest version.

Thanks, Sean

Hi Sean,

I'd suggest always checking with the template downloads page to confirm what version is available for download from there before updating in the admin

Thank you Paul,

Does this mean that if a JB template is using T3v3 version 1.2.1 that I should NOT upgrade that templates version of T3v3?

Hi Sean,

Before upgrading anything take a look at the template changelog page

Check the framework version there that is currently set for the template

Thank you Paul,

I suspect I should have been doing that for the ZenGridFramework all along as well. :-) I had always assumed that the latest and greatest would always be the best. :-)
For the Inspire template I did not actually find a Change Log button. I did not find one for Motion or Ardadia either. But, I did find this on the Inspire page:
JA T3v3 min. version 1.1 (Available from the Inspire download area.)
That seems to indicated that I can upgrade T3v3 as long as I am above version 1.1. However, on the template download page it showed the following:
T3 v1.2.1 (required plugin). Inspire template version 1.2.1 requires T3 Framework version 1.2.1!!
This seems to indicate that I better not upgrade beyond 1.2.1.

Hi Sean,

We replaced the buttons with links towards the bottom of the page

www.joomlabamboo.com/joomla-templates/inspire

Do you think a changelog button would be better added back in?

I would think you could put that link in BOTH places. With interfaces it is always hard to know how a person will try to accomplish the same task. So, more options won't hurt. But, now that I know where you are putting them I will look there. :-)
