Problem with content selection->categories

I'm developing on my local computer using the Quickstart. All works great except when in the module for the tabs on the front page (We make stuff).
I note that in 'Select for items or categories' - you get a list for Items, but nothing for Categories.
Should there be a list? because there does not appear to be any control over which categories are shown in the tabs.
