new position next to the panel

Hello

How can I add new basic (no overlay or popup) module positions next to the panel position?
Which files should I have to change?
If I followed guidelines from docs.joomlabamboo.com/zen-grid-framework-4/layout/Adding-new-module-positions I managed to create only new row of modules above content. But this "panel" position seems to be using different approach or css.
