Front page modules showing up in article?

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Website here: 516arts.org
Problem page here: 516arts.org/index.php/79-about/calls-for-entries/498-imperial-building-mural-call-for-artists

Problem: My client just added a new article the way that she always does, and assigned it a category. The article appears in the front page module (under "Opportunities") as it should. However, when we click on the article, it contains not only the article information but also all of the front page modules, which should only be on the front page. The item is in Call for Entries category and there is a Call for Entries menu item.

Does anyone know why this happened? We just migrated from Bluehost to SiteGround, so the files were all transferred before this happened.

The site uses Rasa2 but I'm not sure which version, and Joomla 3.3.6

Thanks,
Melody

Hi Paul,

I don't believe I have any SEO/URL extensions installed.

I don't understand why I would have two URLs? Yes, it seems that the first one works properly (no extra modules) and the second one does not (front page modules appearing).

Thanks,
Melody

Actually, it seems that I do have the "SEO Simple" extension installed (please see screenshot).

Any caching enabled either on the site or server?

Caching not enabled on site. I am looking at SiteGround to see if there is something there.

Looking up SEO Simple: "This plugin generates the meta data "on the fly" when the page is loaded, it does not save the meta data to the content's meta data fields seen in the Joomla editor. These fields can then be used to override the auto-generated meta description generated by this plugin. To see the plugin at work, you must view your page's source in your browser." (although I just disabled it and saw no changes)

Yes, SiteGround has some sort of caching program - could this be affecting the site, and should I call them about this?

No that will only affect css changes

They have different caching levels but this level won't affect modules

I'm guessing you checked the alias and article to see if anything odd is happening or for duplications?

I am really confounded by this problem, and need to solve it as this page is getting a lot of traffic on the gallery's website right now. Should I perhaps open a ticket?

I have:
1. Created a new article to make sure my client didn't do something weird. No change.
2. Created a new module from scratch (instead of duplicating) using the same settings as the current one. No change.
3. Changed the item category to Exhibitions. Here, when clicking on the article from the Exhibitions module on the front page, it does not show the extra modules.
4. Updated the Zen Tools module to the newest version.

I think it has something to do with Zen Tools module on the front page of the website (OPPORTUNITIES), as the only time it happens is when clicking from that module, not from clicking from the Call for Entries on the main menu. The only difference between that one and others is that it has two categories selected instead of just one under Content Type Settings (see screenshots of EXHIBITIONS and OPPORTUNITIES for comparison). So it seems that the problem might have something to do with this?

Thanks,
Melody

Hi Melody,

Neither the template or a module is responsible for creating the urls - its coming from the core configuration or a component altering the url

A component like sh404sef can do this but not a module

I will check with Rob

Ok the problem is there isn't a real link for the article

The menu item call for entries is displaying a module as well
- zentools217

so neither link is working correctly

So to solve the menu create a blog menu link for the category on a hidden menu

Okay that fixed it. I thought I had the menu item thing covered and was mainly confused because there were two links being generated, one which worked and one which didn't. I am still confused as to why the item worked okay via the menu link/module but not via the category module on the front page. But that's okay - now I know how to set it up next time.

thanks much,
Melody
