I added the CSS from your 2011 article to custom.css, and added the class to the Testimonials module, but it still displays at mobile width. Any help?

I think you may be looking at an old page - hiding classes for this framework are

.stack-phones
.hidden-phones
.visible-phone

.hidden-navcollapse
.visible-gridcollapse
.hidden-gridcollapse

So for example try adding this class to the module

hidden-phones
