smart crop and resize doing neither

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

I'm starting a new build using Lifestyle2, and first thing is Zentools does not appear to be resizing and cropping the category image (column 4), bBut it does with the image place above the readmore break (column 3). The first two images were pre-cropped.

--> dev link <--

I thought I'd let you take a look before I went ahead and put all the images into the content.

JB nls2 1.0 from quickstart
J 3.3.3
T3 v 2.3.1

This is with the latest zentools module?

at the moment first two images are 258 x 164, third image is 258 x 176 and final image is 258 x 383

All are being resized to some degree - I think the problem is due to ration where this is the image size to fit the width either selected or available

Cheers

should have mentioned, yes latest z/t v1.13.2

#1 and #2
the first two images were hand cropped and used as the category image.
(ignore these two)

#3
used in the content. Resizes and crops as expected to the 400x250 setting.

#4
category image. Resizes but not cropped to the image setting 400x250

That last one, #4 is unexpected behavior. It works if I use the image in the content, but not if I use it in the category.

I think the ratios of height to width and the space available mean that is close as it can get - I'd look perhaps at exact size cropping

The width of all the images is coming in at 258px wide

I should retitle the thread.

yes, resize works. crop does not (on the category images).

#3 (content image) and #4 (category image) are the only ones that matter in this comparison.

If I make #4 a content image, it crops.

My thought is that the the fact that the category image is not cropping might be a bug or conflict somewhere. In all my other JB zentools applications - which is quite a few! - the category image also resizes and crops.

Hi,

At the moment all images are originals and none are being resized.
The src for all 4 images is coming from /images/vault and not the cache directory.

If resizing is enabled then it might indicate a problem writing to the cache directory.

Regards,

Rob

Thanks robwent... a promising lead. A cache-write issue certainly seems like the place to look, though performance was unchanged after I ran the akeeba admin tools repair permissions. But you can see the #3 image was definitely resized.

As this is from a very lightly altered (so far) quickstart, this is a head scratcher for sure. I'll open a ticket with the host to make sure all they aren't blocking caches.

The 3rd image src is also from the images folder.
If they are being resized then the image src will be coming from the /media/ folder.

I think at the moment they are just being resized by css.

If I check this page then the images are coming from the cache folder.
designphase3.com/staging/allsaintsashmont/index.php/extensions/zentools/zentools-grid

but the cached images would have been in the quickstart package.

To test if it is a problem with permissions you can try deleting those cached images to see if they get regenerated.

Actually, one of those cached images is in the new build! (At least when I clicked the link.)

And there are some images in the cache folder, too. Maybe I need to build a new zentools grid from scratch and see what happens. this one was repurposed from the quickstart.

Making a new instance from scratch worked fine. No issues.

Looks like they are coming from the right folder now so not an issue with permissions.

Maybe check the module settings. Let us know if you see any abnormalities.

I wound up creating the new instance from scratch - previously I was repurposing one of the modules in the quickstart. must have been a warp in spacetime.
