I linked an article to the Grid 4 module and for some reason it linked to "About Us" in the Top Menu. How do I detach this?

I'm a little confused about the question - I can see the grid4 module titled Joomla on the home page

Modules are assigned to menu links - are the menu links correct?

Actually it is the module below the Joomla module....called "What's your message"...that I am referring to. This module is also grid 4.
I created a link to an article from this module (click on the "Let's Make a Plan" link). When you arrive at the page you will notice that the "About Us" is selected in the top menu. Also if I turn on breadcrumbs again you will see "About Us" in the bread crumbs.

For some reason when I turned the breadcrumbs back on the "About Us" is now not there. However it is still highlighted in the top menu when I am on the "Let's Make a Plan" page.

Spoke too soon, breadcrumbs aren't working right either....Home link does not display

Have you changed links but not changed the aliases for the links?

Starting again with a whole new install.

Not sure what the problem was but I did notice that in the new install the About Us menu default was set to the uncategorized category. My uncategorized articles were showing up on the About Us page until I changed the category to what it should be.
