Hi - Having a quiet patch I decided to get to grips with MAMP and setting up a development site locally.

I wish I hadn't!

I've set up MAMP successfully and got Apache and MySQL running fine.

Successfully installed a site in the htdocs folder using an Akeeba backup.

I can access the admin page using http:localhost:8888/my_site/administrator - and it all works as it should.

BUT I can't access the index.php file in anything except Chrome, and then none of the internal links work.

Safari, Chrome and Firefox all insert www. before localhost which seems to wreck it.

I've Googled until my fingers are sore, and I see dozens of others have the same problem.

I've tried lots of apparent fixes, but none of them have worked for me.

I know this isn't a template issue, but I'm wondering if anyone else out there has had the same problem and managed to fix it?

I'm running OS Sierra 10.12.3 on a 2016 64bit iMac. As far as I'm aware all my browsers are up to date. In MAMP I'm running Apache 5.5.38 and MySql 5.6.35.

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,

Do you have the htaccess enabled?

Does it work if you go back to htaccess.txt

Have you tried with a generic Joomla installation downloading from the joomla org site?

Hi Paul - thanks for getting back to me.

htaccess.txt is in place.

I will try the generic installation tomorrow.

Puzzling that I can get into the admin, but the site itself refuses to play :-(

Thanks again, and I'll let you know how I get on...

Best wishes

Ian

Yep try with the Joomla default install and see if that works

With an akeeba file there could be reasons why it doesn't work on the front end

Cheers

Hi Paul - thanks for the advice, the generic Joomla install has worked and I can access both front and back.

I'll try with a Bamboo template now, and see what happens.

It's a shame if I can't install locally from Akeeba, it would make it very easy to test backup files. I'll raise it with Akeeba...

Thanks again,

Ian

Hi Ian,

It sounds like there is a setting in the Akeeba site that is the problem

Rather than Akeeba I think

Have you cleared any caching or url management?

Have you tried disabling any security component?

Cheers

Hi Paul

Just managed to install Buildr quickstart and everything works OK.

I use sophos, but I've disabled it.

On the Akeeba file I've disabled browser cache, cleared cache and expired cache in the back end but it's still not working properly.

Don't understand url management...

Thanks

Hi Paul - no url management that I'm aware of.

Thanks for all your help so far, but I'm going to leave this issue now I'm happy that I can start from scratch locally if I need to.

I'm developing this site on line anyway for the client.

Thanks again for taking the time...

No problem

It is always handy

Perhaps try a Joomla Bamboo quickstart installation as well

Hi Paul - I did try Buildr quickstart and it was fine :-)

I ought to try another Akeeba file I suppose, but other things are pressing...

Thanks again,

Ian
