SEO for module-based one page templates

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

This is a very general question - no urgency, but it's been a concern for a while now...

Does Google recognize keyword usage or h1 and microdata tags within Joomla modules as it does in a typical article page?

If so, should a one page website have just one h1 tag and structure the series of modules in a hierarchy as if they were a single article?

If not, are one page templates not considerably weaker for SEO purposes?

Thanks,
Wayne

PS. Awesome job on the new Lifestyle template!

The public face of google Matt Cutts has done a couple of videos on this subject

I would suggest personally one h1 and one h2 and multiple h3 tags

Thanks Paul,
So with only one h1 for the whole site, it really is putting all your eggs in one basket. But I suppose with the extra depth of content and microdata that could make your one page an extra powerful one.

Hi Wayne,

My understanding of heading tags is there should only be 1 h1 tag per page and h2 tags have been overused on sites

Hi Paul,

That was my understanding as well. But in a Linkedin Joomla group there was an ongoing argument about whether or not module content was even recognized as page content. Many seemed to believe Google didn't see module content, just it's container.

I think Google is getting better with handling and understanding JS from what I have read
