Missing Content after Update to Joomla 3.7

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi Paul,

I have updated www.castletonhills.ca to Joomla 3.7 and have the latest Buildr Theme and ZenTools2 loaded.

I have a sporadic issue whereby Category content is not loading on the site and the next time I check it is loading. Do you know if this is a known issue?

Thanks,

Steve

Do you think I should reinstall Joomla 3.7?

I just took a look at my PHP version which is 7.1 however the upload max were too small.

You are updating via the Joomla update component?

Yes, I just completed it. I tested the site in Google Chrome and MS Edge. The category content will show up only sometimes. The best page to test this on is www.castletonhills.ca/rates/

This is so puzzling!

Yet another update: I just ran the rebuild command in both Categories and Menu items the refreshed the cache on www.castletonhills.ca/stay-at-castleton-hills/ which displays correctly. I then visit: www.castletonhills.ca/rates/ which shows correctly and then back to www.castletonhills.ca/stay-at-castleton-hills/ and the content is missing.

Any caching enabled either on site or server?

I just turned off the site caching and BINGO it appears to be working. I'll update you on other steps I took as well.

Maybe try cachecleaner extension if not already used?

Yes, I was using cache cleaner but it didn't solve my problem. I went into the Global Configuration settings and found that I had a couple of items that needed to be checked in. Perhaps this was the issue. I then turned off all caching and the site again loaded properly.

When I have some time, I'll dive back into this and delete the cache from the folders manually and then enable the caching again.

Thanks for the idea to check the system cache. So often all I do is use Cache Cleaner and then CTRL + F5 to clear the browser and it takes.

It was definitely one of those days where I went from problem to problem but at least I'll get to start tomorrow knowing that a few items are checked off the to-do list.

Thanks again Paul for allowing to work this out.

I did the update to Joomla 3.7 and to PHP (from 5.6 to 7.1) and immediately ran into problems: the admin and site pages would not show at all (got a blank page with a line saying 'joomla Error displaying the error page').

In case anyone else has this problem, here is a solution:
Update the Buildr template to the latest version (that brought back the page)
Downgrade PHP from 7.1 to 7.0 for all the elements to work on the page.

When I go from php 7.0 to 7.1 the slideshow in the Buildr Backrounder template and the background, stop showing (no images show, but space is there for the images).
Any idea how to fix that issue (not urgent as all works with PHP 7.0)

Thanks, Nick

Thanks Nick for posting. I normally jump on the updates but have been hesitant this time around due to potential issues.

Hi Folks,

I checked with the team on this one

Have you updated zentools2 to the latest version?
Also have you checked the quickicon for an extension that isn't compatible?

Regarding quickicon - I had this myself recently with an old J2.5 site and the JCE editor following the update quickicon broke the admin

Cheers

Paul, you've done it again!
It was Zentools2 that was misbehaving with the PHP update.
As soon as I uploaded the latest Zentools2 (2.3.3), all went well with the update to PHP 7.1.4

A couple of things I picked up from this thread:
What is cache cleaner? Is it Joomla Clear Cache and Clear Expired cache, or something else
AND
What is QuickIcon all about? - I found them in Plugins, but there is nothing I could do with them (e.g. update)
Why did you mention them?

Thanks, Nick

Hi Guys,

I wanted you to know that I updated the rest of my sites today to Joomla 3.7 and ran into caching issues. I ended up turning OFF the System: Conservative Caching because content was not showing up. This happened on at least two additional sites.
