Hi everybody

Just been rooting around in the template settings and I've got the White Screen of Death!

I'm on J 3.6.5 and the URL is www.swanseainbloom.co.uk

Error messages on the screen are:

Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$layout in /home/swanseainbloomco/public_html/templates/buildr/zengrid/zen.php on line 43

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /home/swanseainbloomco/public_html/templates/buildr/tpls/blocks/main.php on line 20

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /home/swanseainbloomco/public_html/templates/buildr/tpls/blocks/main.php on line 20

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/swanseainbloomco/public_html/templates/buildr/zengrid/zen.php on line 1442

Not sure how I managed to do it, but has anybody any ideas on how to fix it?

I can get into the admin area still.

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,

Is this with error reporting set to maximum?

Hi Paul - good to hear from you, and thanks for getting back to me as always!

Yes, set to maximum.

I did wonder if I could simply replace these two files with the originals. Didn't want to try it without asking first because I don't want to make things worse.

Thanks again,

Ian

Have you updated anything on the site or on the server?

Do you have a backup?

Not on the server - everything else is running fine (I hope).

As I said earlier, I was looking at the template settings, but i didn't deliberately change anything.

I do have a backup, but I will lose three days work if we can't get it back :-(

I'm being roundly told off at this end for not backing up more frequently. You'd think I might have learned by now...

Thanks

Hi Ian,

The error means that there are no layout settings for your theme.

Can you use your backup to replace the the settings folder in the template?

More specifically, the settings/config/config-xx.json file where xx is the id of your template.

Do you have a firewall installed that may have blocked the saving of the settings?

Regards,

Rob

Hi Rob - thanks for getting back to me, and sorry for the slow reply.
The only firewall I am aware of is admin tools - this has never caused a problem before.
I have not knowingly changed any template settings (anything is possible) - I may be able to recover the settings folder from akeeba or from my server backup.
I have a fresh download of the template - could I use the settings folder from this?
Thanks again

Hi Ian,

You would need to retrieve the folder from backup

You can extract Akeeba files

Hi guys

Replacing the settings folder has brought the site back, but it is wrecked.

Any ideas?

Thanks for all your help so far...

Hi Both - the site isn't wrecked and it is now more or less back to normal.

A number of settings had changed which made it all look very odd and scared me to death.

I managed to sort it out and it looks good now :-)

Thanks again for your help...

Ian

PS - I have backed it up!

Ah. I see what happened now.

In the templates > edit style I made a small change to the menu font weight, clicked on save, with the same result - WSOD and

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /home/swanseainbloomco/public_html/templates/buildr/tpls/blocks/main.php on line 20

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /home/swanseainbloomco/public_html/templates/buildr/tpls/blocks/main.php on line 20

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/swanseainbloomco/public_html/templates/buildr/zengrid/zen.php on line 1442

Does this mean I have a major problem with my installation? :-(

thanks

I think the default is 300 and I upped it to 600.

I know I changed something, and saved the change, which caused the problem yesterday - but I can't remember what the change was.

Thanks

Hi Ian,

Can I perhaps suggest taking a backup of the site and trying it locally on a localhost?

changing a font weight value to 600 shouldn't be a problem if its a font input you are adding it to

Paul - I know it sounds really sad, but I've never managed to get WAMP or anything like it running on my Mac. Which is a bit pathetic considering Macs are supposed be set up as servers by default!

What would you expect that to achieve? I can't believe it's a problem with the server as I have so many other sites up there without any problem.

Thanks

Hi Ian,

I was thinking you would have somewhere to test on without breaking the site

Hi Paul - that's a terribly sensible answer. I meant MAMP by the way, not WAMP :-)

I'm having another look at it now - I have a very simple tutorial, but I can't seem to get it to go.

I'll let you know how I get on...

thanks again,
