Sorry I'm not 'getting it' I'm using the quickstart as a guide, and not figuring out how to assign a unique theme to just a portion of the whole site, screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cDXhoAjMNo is the video link that I hope defines this riddle better.

I've tried to figure it out looking at the quickstart, and don't have the 'handle' of having more than one style in the same template I think is what I mean.

Template / theme assignment can be done several different ways in joomla - menu link and via template and another way I've forgetten

Normally users have one template style as default e.g. whole site

Then duplicate in the template manager and then assign it as needed e.g. normally use the home page

Ah, so I should be able to 'clone' the default, add a left sidebar (sidebar 2) and then assign that copy of the main template right?

So, if there's an update of Buildr, then all the 'clones' will need to be updated too, since they're copies right?

A template style is a version of an installed template - This means when a template is updated it would affect all template styles

Yes in the template section you select the style you want to duplicate and click duplicate button in top left corner

There are a couple of different ways of duplicating a template style

Regarding your first point less that is correct - create the default style as needed, duplicate default style and then assign as required
