Compatibility to Internet Explorer 8 or older

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi,

I am building a website with the JoomlaBamboo Template "BOOST" from 2015.
The presentation of the website on new browser versions of Firefox and Google Chrome is good. But when I open the website with Internet Explorer 8 or 9 the modules, fonts, positions, etc. look completely different.
For example there are breaks in the layout (grid positions) that are normally next to each other, Icons (zen shortcake icons) are not displayed, google fonts are not displayed - standard font is shown ...
I attached to screenshots, that show the differences very good. One is made with IE8 or 9, the other with latest mozilla firefox.

Down to which version of IE the templates are compatible?
Is there any chance to optimize the template for elder browser versions?
Can I adjust something in the template?

Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Kerstin (V4zehn)

Hi Kerstin,

We don't support IE8 and only the last version of IE9 (IE9 wise I'll need to check this with the lead developer) but I think this is the case

Hi Paul,
please find attached a Screenshot of IE 11 that my customer made.
They have IE 11 on a Terminal Server at my customers office. I think it is adjusted to maximum accessibility/freedom of barriers.
Fonts and Symbols are restricted and replaced by standard Times New Roman fonts, Icons are not shown as well.
See the attached screenshot.

Is there a possibility to circumvent these IE security settings/accessibilty settings - especially

concerning fonts?
The customer says, that they don't have display restrictions with other websites.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I ask my customer for that. But the settings/descriptions will be in German. I will attach the screenshots as soon as I have them.

Hi Paul,
now I can send you the Screenshots of the IE settings. I titled the images with the tab name as the settings are in German. I hope you can work with that.
I couldn't see anything helpful in the settings Screenshots.

But after talking to the customer, I recognized that with a lot of websites the web fonts and zen shortcakes aren't shown with their server based IE version. Zen Icons are deleted, text is shown in Times New Roman. I haven't changed any font settings in the template.
Is there a possibility to define which web compatible font a browser should use, when web fonts aren't allowed? How can I add zen Icons to the site, maybe with a library or so?
Thanks in advance for your kind help.
Best regards,
Kerstin

Hi Paul,

good news, the tech support of the server provider of my customers office changed some security settings in IE and now the website is displayed in the original design. My apologies for the confusion. At first I received the information from the server provider, that they are using a non-restricted version of IE. But after some conversation and testing they recognized that there are restrictions.
Thank you very much for your support and help.
Best regards,
Kerstin

Thanks for the update :)

You're welcome

Don't suppose you happen to know what they changed? - in case it crops you up again for other users
