On a development site, we are trying to show Joomla content items from several categories, arranged by published date.... but the items are first sorted by category. I would have expected category to be ignored. is this an undocumented feature?

Latest everything. Current configuration (of several tried) used on this page

Yes I'm afraid it will sort first by category and then publish date

I'm guessing you can't select via individual item as so many categories involved

Even with category turned off, it's still sorting by category. (I think this makes it an undocumented feature.)

UPDATE: was able to do what I needed with the stock Joomla 'Articles-Category' module. Interesting that date order - ascending vs descending - appears to be the opposite of ZT2.
