Adding Links to Images in a Grid

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

I have several images in a grid. Is it possible to be linked to a specific page on my website upon clicking an image?

Hi

You could add them into the articles intro text and then select those articles to load in the zentools module

I'm simplifying things - do you need a more detailed explanation?

Thanks for the reply,
by "them" do you mean the links to the pages that I want? Would that make the grid image link to another page on the website?

Yes sorry you add an image to an article's intro text

Then in the zentools2 module select either the individual articles you added the image to or the articles category

Selecting the link behaviour as content

So when the image in the zentools2 module is clicked on the front end of the site it loads the article the image is from

Hmm... here's the problem:

I don't want to just load the article. The page that I want loaded includes no main text, just an module in the grid4 position, along with a zentools list in the grid1 position. That's why I was wondering if there was a way just to make the grid image link to a specific page, not necessarily related to the article.

You can hide the intro text in the joomla settings - is that an option?

I feel like that could work, but is there a way to make it so that the modules I want appear on the page when I click the image? I can't find anything in the Menu Assignment interface...

I would follow Paul's advice here, in addition you need to assign an article to menu item in order to be able to assign the modules.

Are you familiar with the concept of "hidden menu"?

This article explain it:
www.joomlabamboo.com/blog/how-to-joomla/implementing-a-fix-for-menu-item-ids-in-joomla

This is just how Joomla works!

Doing this should allow it all to work fine as you desire, however if I have not followed it correctly and you have a situation that this cannot address then take a look at the module manager from NoNumber, Peter has some useful extensions
www.nonumber.nl/extensions/advancedmodulemanager

It has got us out of trouble a few times when trying to overcome the menu id system in Joomla.

I think your solution though is with Paul's suggestion and allocating to a hidden menu.

Ian

Thanks for the reply! I will definitely look into hidden menus. I will say that I found a really easy solution though. I just downgraded to the first zentools, which has an external links option.

Hi there,
Ive just finished the manual link option in Zentools2 and while there are more things to add to the next release I thought I would drop this version here for you.

I haven't written the docs for this yet so:

- Manual link option is available for all content sources except for Gallery and Joomla banners as they are essentially manual links anyway.
- K2 author now basically has the option to use the author url for the link. No manual link option for this source.
- Joomla content can now use the Joomla item alternate link a or manual links.

1. For the other sources to choose the manual link go the content tab in the module admin and select manual links.

2. In textbox that appears type a link per line. eg click enter after each link you write.

3. There is an option to fallback to the item link if no link exists for this item. So if you enable this and only add one link then the first item will get the manual link and all others will get whatever the default link was.

Manual links wont work if you have a random or regularly changing content.

The links apply to the items in which order they appear on the page. So your first link int he list will apply to the first item in the module and so forth.

Thanks

I have followed what Andy say on this topic, the settings are saved but when click on the front page it still just opens the the image in a larger size. itdoes not open to a another article.
