Menus

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi - I'm having problems with the menus on www.vintagestarwarsdiecast.co.uk.

I was tinkering with the site yesterday after a looooong gap when suddenly all the menus disappeared.

I checked in the menu module and there was a message in red saying: XML data not available.

I Googled around a bit, but couldn't find an answer I could understand. However, I fixed the problem by updating from Joomla 3.8.1 to 3.8.2, which was overdue, and all the modules started working properly again.

But, things are slightly different in two areas, and I can't see how to change them.

1 - If I remember correctly, the menu on the left, with Toys at the top used to be an accordion menu so the sub menu items would only appear when you clicked on the top menu item - i.e. Toys. Now I can only show or hide the sub items, and the accordion bit no longer works.
What am I doing wrong?

2 - On mobile phones the two menus in the sidebars now show at the foot of the page as well as in the off canvas position.
How can I hide them for mobile devices?

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,

It sounds like the menu classes have been removed from the modules

Does that ring any bells?

Many thanks Paul - all sorted now.

I've not been doing much recently and got a bit rusty :-)

Thanks again,

Ian

Hi Paul- all was well, until I noticed that a Zentools slideshow was not working.

When I investigated the module I found the same message: Module XML data not available

When I tried to create a new Zentools module I got the same error. It seems I can create other types of module.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ian

Have you tried re-installing the zentools module?

Hi Paul - that's fixed it :-)

One last problem with this site - the breadcrumbs aren't linking to the relevant pages, they're not active.

Any idea how I can fix this?

Thanks

Hi Ian,

this is normally down to the site structure

Do you have inactive links in any menu?

Hi Paul - all the menu items showing are linking and working OK.

However - there are lots of menu items associated with the demo content, all of which are unpublished.

Not sure where to go from here...

Thanks

Hi Ian,

Unpublished menu links don't show on the site

Are you seeing them on the front end of the site?

Hi Paul - no, they're not showing. Just wondered if they might be causing the problem with the breadcrumbs...

Thanks

Hi Ian,

The breadcrumbs will follow the menu so it will depend on how the menu is set up

Menu links that aren't published on the menu won't display

With the menu and the disabled links can you navigate to them via the site?

If you can do you have any url management extensions?

Hi Paul - sorry but I think I've confused you.

I've disabled all menus and menu items that were installed with demo content, so there are no live links at all other than the two new menus I have created.

All menu items on these two are working fine and linking where they should.

I do have sh404sef installed, but it is not enabled, and the problem with breadcrumbs existed long before I introduced this component.

I've attached a screenshot of the menu setup.

Sorry this is such a messy one :-)

Thanks

Ian

As far as I'm aware, I've set these menus up in exactly the same way that I always do, but I've never come across this problem before...

Hi Ian,

Taking this page as an example

www.vintagestarwarsdiecast.co.uk/the-toys/landspeeder

What is your position layout in the template - can you attach a screenshot?

Thanks
