I am working on a site that was built using the old Responsive2 template (not the buildr version) it is acting a little finicky and i just wondered if I should be updating the template periodically.

It is OK now but two days ago, I was having a hard time making new menu items. I would make them and sometimes they wouldn't show up. Then by deleting some and recreating some, I finally got it to work.

That is a core Joomla issue

It sounds like either a caching problem or a glitch following a joomla update

Is the database up to date?

It has the latest version of Joomla and PHP 5.6.31. I don't quite know what you mean by Is the database up to date?

Hi Elizabeth,

With a Joomla update it is a good idea to go to

extensions > Manage > Database

To check the database version - it will tell you if not up to date

If it isn't, click the fix button and wait for it to do its magic

yes afraid so the template has no effect on the menus or core components generally
