new user field

Hi - I've added a new user field 'lastname' so I can use the 'name' field for first name only - it makes emails more personal.

However, I'm setting up a blog here www.k6steam.co.uk/en/blog.html and it's showing the author's first name only.

Any idea how I can make it pick up the 'lastname' field as well?

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,

Can you not just amend the Name * in the user in users > manage

Thanks Paul, but you missed the point :-)

I've added a new field 'lastname' to the user profile, and on my registration and contact forms I have First name and Last name fields.

I've done this because I want to send system emails to 'Dear Paul', not 'Dear Paul Burndred', and it works fine, but I need to retain the last name on the system for other uses.

So I have {name:value} = firstname, and {lastname:value}.

Back to the blog, It's quite correctly picking up 'name' for the author, but I want it to call 'lastname' as well.

Is this possible?

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,

Have you thought about using a contact form extension rather than the Joomla core extension?

Hi Paul - I'm using RS form Pro with the Joomla profile fields mapped across and it works fine - except that the Joomla core fields have only 'name' for first and second name.

Which is why I used the new 'fields' facility to add lastname to the user profile.

I've also hooked RSForm into mailchimp, which also uses firstname and lastname, so it all ties in quite nicely.

In fact I would be happy with the way everything is working if I could see how to get Joomla to pick up the lastname field where I need it :-)

To be honest it's not that important - but it would be good to get it right...

Sorry this is taking up so much time!

Thanks

Hi Ian,

Just curious how are you hooking it in to mailchimp?

Above sounds like you know more about rsforms that me

In the user email in rsforms can you not just have

Dear {name:value}

via the edit text button in the rs forms user emails section?

Cheers
