broken language file

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi - I've edited the language file en-GB.mod_login.ini to change the 'create account' line and I've managed to break the login module so it's showing the wrong text.

The site is www.K6steam.co.uk

I'm not sure what I've done - anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,

Have you tried adding back the original file from a joomla.org zip?

Backing up the existing file first

Cheers

Hi Paul - thanks for getting back to me.

It was such a simple change I didn't take a copy of the original file before making the alteration. Stupid!!!!!

I'll try the replacement from a joomla zip tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep you posted

Hi Ian

Usually just reinstall joomla via the updater will restore the core files. As Paul said take a backup first.

An aside it easier to use language overrides rather than hack the core files to avoid them being overwritten on upgrading.

Thanks Paul and Ian.

I downloaded a fresh copy of Joomla overwrote the ini file from there - which worked fine :-)

Just out of interest Ian, my Joomla version is up to date so there was no option that I could see in Joomla updater to reinstall or update.

But you are absolutely right - I should have used a language override. And why didn't I? Sometimes I just do stupid things!

Thanks again, both, for the advice...

Hi Ian

To reinstall the current version go to components > Joomla Update

You will then need to "check for updates", if you have the latest version it will tell you that you already have the latest version - 3.x.x....

You will then see an option to reinstall a version of Joomla, which should be the current version. Hit the button - Reinstall Joomla core files - it will then install the core Joomla files over your current install.

Useful feature if you need to clean a hacked site having removed any injected code and files.
