Actually notice the different syntax you have used:

{zen-3}

and

{/zen3}

It should be {zen-3} and {/zen-3} to close the blocks.

Just to throw a curve ball into this thread, excuse me if I have missed the issue!

From the start of this post it seems to me you want a right side set of modules to run down the page.

Could you use "sidebar1 or sidebar2" for the right column, and then use "abovecontent and belowcontent" along with articles/blog to create the look. In addition you combine with zentools or write a html template override for the component area.

Anyway I hope this does not create chaos for you....
