Responsive2 - visitor access to site and content

Using the Responsive2 template, I want to restrict access to the site as a whole and further access to selected content (comments images)

So, I provide a link via email to my visitor. The visitor must login to get past the login page. Based on the visitor's successful login I'd like to give that visitor access to some content. To a different visitor I may want to provide access to different content.

What module, tool, code will allow these features?

Perhaps K2 provides such functionality? If so, K2, Zentools v2, Joomla +3, Responsive2 template compatibility?

With the email is that coming from you or the site?

Is the there two levels of access one for the site and the other for comments?

I think you are looking at needing a acl management component as well
