problem with zentools slideshow

Hi - I'm missing something in the zen tools slideshow settings. My slideshows rarely seem to behave as I expect.
In the screenshot above, the blue welcome panel on the left is set to 300px high and I want the slideshow on the right to be the same height.
The images in the slideshow are also 300px high, but the slideshow never appears the same hight as the welcome box, it's always shallower.
In the image settings I've tried 'no resize' and 'exact resize' but neither makes any difference. I've also tried load JS on and off to no effect.
Changing the slideshow settings doesn't help either.
Anyone any idea what I'm missing, or where I'm going wrong?
