JS error on homepage

I installed the template including the sample data. Then in the template options for the homepage variant I uncheck "Hide maincontent on front page" and get when I scroll:

index.php:757 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'top' of undefined

Apart from that error, the main content still doesn't show up.

I just installed the site with the sample data. Why would I need to re-compile? Must this be done daily?

I'm not quite sure of the technical reasoning but some issues can be resolved by saving and re-compiling

No it doesn't need to be done daily
