Replacing Main Page Content with Hikashop Products

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

On the Rasa2 template there are 6 articles in the middle of the page. They are titled Project 4, News 4, Aenean oulvinar, Tonal Development, News #3 and Class aptenta.

Could you tell me how I can replace these with products from Hikashop,

thanks,

Jim

Hi Paul.,

That helped a lot. I was able to put my first product on my main page.

The only thing is that I still want to change those articles that I referred to at the start of the post. Do you know what module controls them?

thanks,

Hi Paul,

No I just want to change these articles to other articles. I have figured out how to post the products above them on my front page.

Hi Jim,

In module manager you need to filter/search for the module called
"Featured Items"

To load different content you need to the settings in the
"content type settings"

You can either load categories or articles

If the content you point to in the module doesn't have a menu link - it will reload the home page

For the module to work correctly a link needs to exist on the system

If you have this problem I can elaborate on resolving it

Hi Paul,

Thanks I'm making some headway now.
I've got the featured items changed. I am actually displaying categories which is what I want. The idea was I was going to display the category information and then have links to the products in them. So I will have to update main menu for these links.
Now how do I change the menu to display these categories and products?
I knew I had to do it sooner or later but it looks pretty complex.

cheers,

Jim

Hi Jim,

This is what's known as the menu item id issue. This post should help:
www.joomlabamboo.com/blog/how-to-joomla/implementing-a-fix-for-menu-item-ids-in-joomla

But you basically need to just go to the menu manager and create menus that point to the categories in questions.

eg go to menu manager > main menu > new

Select Hikashop and follow the prompts from there.

Hope that helps.

Hi Anthony,

I'm moving through this menu stuff about as fast as a frozen lizard.
I'm not trying to create menu items for Hikashop products yet, that the next step.
Right now I am just trying to put a category on the main menu (called technology) so that when you hover over that menu item that it will show the articles in the technology category and the user can click on one.

I was able to have the technology category display as a root item created on the main menu. But I can't figure out how to get the articles to appear as sub items and get the down arrow to appear next to the menu item.

I read the article, www.joomlabamboo.com/blog/how-to-joomla/implementing-a-fix-for-menu-item-ids-in-joomla

I created a new menu and named it itemid fix.
Then I created a menu item for it. I tried different menu item types:
Category blog, category list, list all categories, single article, none of them seem to work.

I would think that menu item type: Category blog and then choose my category of technology would work. But it didn't.

Any help to get my articles to display as menu items would be appreciated.

cheers,

Jim

Hi Jim,

With the menu module - do you have it set to show drop downs?

Hi Paul,

Yes the Main Menu module is set to show submenu items.
The other menu items on my main menu like Extensions and Joomla both show a black box with submenu items when the cursor is hovered over the main menu item.

I just need to know how to setup my articles to do the same, to appear in a black box when I hover over the menu item that I have created called technology.

cheers,
