I keep trying to close the space between the image and the text to the right.
Idealy I would like to be able to use a picture a tad wider than is displayed but this is the size that they revert to. Any suggestions, would be grateful.

Could I be cheeky and ask one other question?
When I insert a line <hr /> it produces quite a light grey line. Is it possible using the "Custom.css" file to change the colour of the line and if so, how?

Is this a hr tag?

Try adding the existing style

hr {
border-bottom: 1px solid #eeeeee;
}

and then change either the px for the height of the line or #eeeeee for the colour
