I zipped my site with Akeeba backup and extracted with kickstart, but my site wouldn't show. I had to put my old html site back on. www.alinamn.com/joomla_test

Thanks,
Alina

Hi Alina,

When I go to your link I am redirected to another page.

By not showing do you mean a white screen or do you see an error?

In global configuration turn error reporting to development and then see if you get any errors when trying to access the site.

Rob

Hi Rob,

I changed the error reporting. If I'm on Safari it gives me "too many redirects... If I'm in Firefox it talks about cookies.

So it's www.alinamn.com/joomla_test/index.php

Hi,
It sounds like the error is related to the server rather than Joomla.
When I click either of your links I am redirected to www.green.ch/en-us/home.aspx

Check there are no rules in your .htaccess file that are causing the redirects.

Rob

If you copy/paste the url it doesn't do that.

The pages are in a redirect loop so it is likely to be an issue with a redirect in your .htaccess file.

And how would I fix that?

You can chek if the file is causing the problem by temporarily renaming it.

How to fix it would depend on the content of the file.
I would assume that it is in place from your previous site so could be removed and replaced with the standard joomla one.

In fact my provider had created a different .htaccess. So I switched back to the original one. They told me also that the index.php file doesn't look correct to them. I had copied the file from the MAMP site directly. I don't know if that was something wrong to do. So now I have this message:

Server error!

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

This is a general server error. You would need to check your hosting error logs or check with your host to find out what the problem is.

You can compare your index file with a standard Joomla one to see if there is any difference, but it might be worth asking them what they think is wrong with it rather than it 'not looking right'.

They told me it's too short!
This is my first joomla site, by the way. I might have done something wrong in the uploading process from MAMP. Would it help if I erased everything on the remote server and start all over again?

If you moved the site with akeeba then I would have thought it should be fine.

Can you attach the index.php file here in a zip file so we can take a look.

If you are using firefox can you please try uploading with chrome.

I don't think the index file is the problem though. It sounds like the hosting setup.

So I should start over with putting the files on the server and extracting them, and this time with Chrome?

Sorry, I was talking about attaching your zipped index.php file, not uploading the site.

This time it worked, I guess.

I'm not able to download your attachment, it says it is corrupt.
Please compare your file against the attached one (joomla 3.3).

I doubt the index file is the problem though so we might be going on the grong path here. The error is a server error so you really need to check with your host about what is causing the error.

Regards,

Rob
