Using custom font stack and fonts.com in New Lifestyle template

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hello,
We are building out a site using the NewLifstyle template. The Designer has chosen a font from fonts.com. At the moment it would be loaded via a .js in the head. (there are other deployment options as well)

The font stack is a global change - and I'm not sure the best way to integrate to the template.

I assume it has something to do with editing the templateDetails.xml file to add the new font stack option in the template manager.

I wanted to ask before I experimented - as there are other people working on the development site.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thank You,
---Chris

Hi Chris,

How do you aim to manage the font?
Is it to be loaded via the template admin settings?
Or just loading via the custom.css file?

Cheers

Hello Paul,
I was thinking it should be in the template admin since it is defining the base font for everything. That is where I would normally change the font for the whole site.

I'm still new to this - so please correct me if I'm headed in the wrong direction!

Thanks!

Hi Chris,

Are you downloading the various font files to upload to the site?

Do you have the font working now using js?

Hello Paul,
Actually - just realized I'm not using the .js anymore - there is a linked (to fonts.com) css stylesheet in the head now.

I can reference the font in, inline or in custom.css - and it renders properly.

I was just feeling that it should be part of the font stack that is in the template manager - so that it is the initial starting point for the site's body font/heading font/ nave font etc...

Thanks!

Hi Chris,

It does involve changing some files to show the font via the admin

If you check out this thread

www.joomlabamboo.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&view=topic&catid=516&id=112255&Itemid=215#124999

This covers the file to change

Thanks Paul,

So I made the edits to templateDetails.xml that I presumed were correct in my first post - everything appears to be working!

Thanks for your time!

I should mention - you need to keep a copy of the files if you update the template
