When clicking the 'read more' button of an item in the Frontpage slideshow, article is not displayed on category subpage
But instead still the frontpage is displayed with messed up slideshow

Hi

That sounds like you have itemid issue where Joomla reloads the home page

Try creating menu links either for the categories or the articles themselves
