New Lifestyle/Zen Tools image slider issue on iPad

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi there,

First of all I'm new to Joomla and Joomla Bamboo templates, so I may be missing something obvious :) I have checked the knowledge base and forums for an answer but can't locate one, so...

I've noticed a difference between the demo site of the New Lifestyle template and when I have the same template installed via the quickstart file.

On my iPad (iPad Air iOS 7.1) The image slider/fader on the front page scrolls smoothly on the demo site but on my quickstart install when the page is scrolled the image slider stays in the same position while the page moves. I also had a previous install of this template where the slider image would stay in position actually covering the rest of the page while it scrolled behind.

I updated the Zen Tools module to 1.12 and this issue stayed. Do you know of a fix for this?

Many thanks,
Nat.

Hi Nat,

So just to clarify you see differences on the ipad between the demo version on the JB site and the quickstart you have installed?

Do you have a link for your live version?

Cheers

Hi Paul,

Yes that's right. The link is:

www.irwinclementstreeservice.com.au/staging

When the screen is touched to scroll the page vertically the image slider stays put until the screen is released, then the slider catches up and repositions itself.

Hey Nathaniel,

Ive just checked here on ios6 and I get the same effect on the quickstart and the demo. Im pretty sure thats the default behaviour for the touch event.

We are using jQuery to detect the scroll position which gets updated instantly on a desktop but the scroll position is only activated on touch devices when the item is stopped.

I have ios7 on a device at home so I can check again tonight but Im pretty sure thats the default behaviour.

Thanks

Ok, good to know. Thanks.

I checked again on the iPad and still displaying differently, interested to know how you go on the iOS 7.

It's not a big issue for me but if it was possible to remove the position lag then I thought it was worth a try.

Thanks guys for your responses. I've got a couple of other queries but I'll attack the documentation first!

Weirdly I dont see a difference on ios7 here.

Not sure what would be causing you to see a difference unless its the demo frame.

Try going to bambootheme.com/showcase/feb14.

I just tested in the demo frame and you dont actually see the slide effect on the menu. I think that might be the issue.

Thanks

Hi guys,

I didn't think you would want a new topic started for the same issue so I'm posting here.

Has anything happened with this issue?

I'm having the same issue on the iPad (also noticed it on the android phone too) where the banner (zentools or html image) don't scroll smoothly on the iPad until you remove your finger from the screen and then restart scrolling again. When you continue scrolling the banner reappears after the top grids and main content passes on the screen over top the bottom grids. The live site I'm having issues with is www.cfofm.org. It happens on the home page plus internal pages. BTW I find it also happens on your joomlabamboo home page as well?

I think it caused by the collapsing banner (not sure what you call the effect) as its scrolled. My other sites do not have any issue with normal fixed banners that scroll with the page. Its a cool effect but if there is going to be reliability issues on different devises, is there any way to disable this collapsing effect?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul,

No I do not see it on the demo site but the demo site.

For what its worth, I do see the same thing on the front page of this site when you scroll down and then the banner image temporarily appears then disappears as you scroll past some of the page info below the banner.

Thanks

Something odd going on with microblog on there

Have you considered using zentools for that? - Zentools is intended to replace microblog

Hi Paul,

I know Microblog is no longer recommended. It was being used on the old site and I just redeployed it on the new site when I changed the template. I have not had a chance to change of to Zentool for those elements. I'll disable those modules and see if that has any impact. Its possible its could be effecting the page but I'm also getting same issue on internal pages that have no Microblog elements showing.

I'll see about doing a video to show you. Give me a bit of time to get something for you.

Hi Don,

If you can do a video that would be handy

I think it will require Anthony to look at it

Hi Paul

Have a look at this link:

If you have problems with the link let me know. The video isn't the greatest as I had to airplay the ipad to my pc in order to record.

The stuttering of the banner is not well shown in the video but the banner image rendering over top of the bottom of the page is. Also you'll see in some cases when the page scrolls back up, you can see text scrolling behind the banner.

Though I don't see the same issues with the template demo, I also included in the video the similar issue I see with the Joomlabamboo front page if that helps.

You'll also notice the sticky nav on my site is slow to show show even though its set to 50px.

I also changed over the microblogs over to zentools but saw no change.

Regards
