MegaMenu does not pick up custom access levels

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hello once again,
When I try to use the MegaMenu, I cannot access menu items that belong to a custom access level. I have a "Staff" level that provides custom menus. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Pat

Have you tried changing the access level option in the mega menu?

Yes, I have done that. You can see the drop down in the attached pic. I have a custom group called Staff that has a different access level to any of those shown in the dropdown. Is this a fixed list or is it data driven from the user group table?

Thanks!

Talking to Anthony it is a limitation of the framework, so via the menu item its not possible currently

I am looking at a work around now

Could you try creating a test zentools module and assigning the content to it

Set the access levels to your custom level for the module

and then load the module in the mega menu

I've done this its not perfect and does require being set up using special level in the mega menu

Hi Paul,

I somehow have run into this problem as well now. I thought that the t3 project had done some code changes and this should work out of the box. And I also could see in your quickinstall package (Newstream 2) that you somehow managed that "guest" is being available on the access dropdown.

But I could not figure out on how to get this to run on my site. Any hints?

Tx, Steffen

OK. This ACL is driving me nuts. What I need is that some menu items are only visible to guests, some to guests AND registered people and some only to registered people. That's why I need guests as a user group. But maybe I have misunderstood the entire concept of the megamenu...

Hi Steffen,

No I think the theory is sound actually.

I think this is related to the megamenu limitations mentioned above though however.

Can you try publishing the menu to a standard Joomla module to see if you have it set up correctly?

Thanks

Ok, I guess I am just taking the route that many others did. I have public, registered and special available.

I do need the role guest. So all the menu items assigend to guest, I change to public, apply my changes and then revert to guest again. Not a nice way to do it, but it works for me.

After all, I do not have to change the menu every day and I can work with that workaround. I am though still wondering, why "guest" shows up on JB's quickinstall package, but not on my regular install...

Hi Steffen,

Yes there seems to be an outstanding issue with T3 and access levels.

I think this is the thread one of our members posted and Ive followed up with with the devs.
github.com/t3framework/t3/issues/357

It might help to weigh in there.

Ill petition the devs again.

Sorry about the trouble.

I am about to work on a site that has custom access levels for different users so that they will see different menu items, has the issue been resolved with MegaMenu?

If not, can I use a different menu system with your templates and or are there workarounds to the issue?

Thanks

Hi Jeremy,

Sorry for the delay.

I've just checked on this again and it seems it's still an outstanding issue for T3.

I'll buzz the T3 developers and get back to them with their response.

Please buzz us again if you don't hear from us soon.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Thanks, Anthony,
I created the original post about this issue and I still need to add another access level to my site, so I am very invested in a solution to this problem, also.

Thanks,
Pat

Hi Pat,

I'm so sorry for the delay and also the fact I have some not such great news. Apparently T3 doesn't and wont support custom access levels.

Not entirely sure why as it seems to be to be a pretty important functionality when building a complex site for users.

Not sure of any work around right now but just thinking off the top of my head - perhaps try using a module to populate the menu levels. eg add a module to the mega menu and set the menu items and the modules to custom user levels.

In theory that should work actually. Let us know if it helps.
