gradient overlay ontop of image

HI!

I was hoping you could guide me in the right direction. I want to adapt my css so that there is a transparent gradient over all images on the nebula template.

I have tried various things but nothing seams to be happening. Even when i add my own class it doesn't show up on the drop down list of the article editor.
