create front page like demo!

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

I would like to display the featured articles on the front page like in the demo, and also the individual articles as in the demo too - but can't get this happening!

I have added an image into content as per instructions.

I found the div code <div class="left item-image"> in the source code of the demo, and added this to the image. This extends the image to the left and right sides with a border underneath, but -

1) the article title appears above (and partly underneath) the image, not below
2) on the front page, there's no link on the image to the article
3) on the article page, the image doesn't go across the article width - does the image needs to be a specific size and/or height/width ratio for this to work?

Also, how do you get the "read more" link to display only those words, and not the full title?

Thank you!

Test site for where I'm playing with this is here: heartforchange.net/spark-home

...ok, solved the image display problem.

I found another article had the image and link in the right place.

The image was published in the article images and links section, not as it says in the Moments Documentation/front page instructions which is "The images in each item are added as a content image in the item itself".

Assume this also solves the wide-image requirement for the full article view, by adding a wide image in the joomla full article image section.

Still haven't solved the "read more" issue, grateful for any ideas!

Anna, I'm trying to get the left sidebar of my site: yodaley.com/vinoveg/
to resemble somewhat the layout of yours. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to accomplish this. Could you tell me, please, where you made yours?
The "Spark your Soul Journey" image/link, your round image, social buttons, and menu link? That's what I'm trying to build, but I've been unable to figure how where and how.
Thank you so much for any help you're able to give!

Hi Kathy,

The image from the demo site is a custom html module with the the html added

<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="border img-circle" src="images/democontent/avatar/avatar.jpg" alt="" /></p>

The image off the demo site is 140px x 140px

so you would need to upload an image via the media manager

I should have also mentioned the position used in the module manager for the circle is above-left

The image above on Ann's site is also an image published to a custom module - with no logo published in the template settings

Regarding the social icons this is the social module can you need to download and install

You can download it from the moments download page

it's called "Zen Social Joomla 2.5 / 3 Module"

once installed you chose the social media option and add a link to that icon then publish to a position - in Ann's case positioned again as with all three modules - above-left

Paul! I was trying to avoid pestering you again. :P
Are the options in the side, as in Anna's site linked above and in asknelly.com, items that are written custom for their sites? Or do we build those in Moments or Zentools? And if so, how?
Thanks again, Paul. You're my favorite JoomlaBamboo helper!

for some reason Joomla uses custom html as the term for adding your own html - its a bit confusing for new users

If you open up module manager you need to hit the "New" button

and from the list select

" Custom HTML - This Module allows you to create your own HTML Module using a WYSIWYG editor. "

in here you add the pics you've already uploaded to the site via media manager

You would need to do this twice to follow ann's layout

With zensocial its simpler

I would perhaps suggest installing the jce editor to your site to make adding images easier

www.joomlacontenteditor.net/

once you've installed the editor you will need to go to system > global configuration and change the default editor

I probably am! I need to get my old man in on this. He looks at your replies and knows just what to do. I think we might put this to bed for tonight and have a go in the morning.

Cheers right back at you!
