Installation of Grid 3

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hello again,

I am trying to use the template called Grid 3. I installed:

JA T3v3 min. version 1.0.3
Zentools
JB Type
Xmap from Guillermo Vargas

As soon as I activate any of these, specifically, JA T3v3 min. version 1.0.3 and Zentools,
I receive this error:

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'T3V3_MISSING_T3V3_PLUGIN' in /home/content/92/8428592/html/new/templates/grid3/index.php:7 Stack trace: #0 /home/content/92/8428592/html/new/libraries/joomla/document/html/html.php(531): require() #1 /home/content/92/8428592/html/new/libraries/joomla/document/html/html.php(591): JDocumentHTML->_loadTemplate('/home/content/9...', 'index.php') #2 /home/content/92/8428592/html/new/libraries/joomla/document/html/html.php(414): JDocumentHTML->_fetchTemplate(Array) #3 /home/content/92/8428592/html/new/includes/application.php(259): JDocumentHTML->parse(Array) #4 /home/content/92/8428592/html/new/index.php(48): JSite->render() #5 {main} thrown in /home/content/92/8428592/html/new/templates/grid3/index.php on line 7

I have turned off my other template and other plugins i was using with said template.

Any tips here?

I am viewing this page:
docs.joomlabamboo.com/joomla-templates/grid3-documentation

But it does not give the order to instal things or what gets turned on automatically etc.

Thanks

John

Have you confirmed the compatibility checklist before implementing?

Template compatibility

Template is compatible only with Joomla 2.5.x and Joomla 3.0.x.

Also it is very important to follow these rules:

if you have installed ZenGridFramework v2 => REMOVE IT
if you have installed JB Library => UPDATE IT (min. version 2.1.2)
If you have installed ZenTools => UPDATE IT (min. version 1.8.3)
JA T3v3 min. version 1.0.3

Yes.

I have none of those on this site. I am running joomla 2.5.9ish.

I am thinking I might do a fresh folder on my server and simply upload the sample content via the Quickstart files.

As a good practice you should always have a test environment before implementing into production, something along the lines of www.mnodomain.com/test, if this is a new install, leave the sample data within the application and try working backwards, eliminating and disabling menu's and changing content type to mapped menu, within test, and confirm results, moving forward. The more details you can provide me the better to ensure I can find a solution for you and we're looking at the same thing :-)

Hi again. I did indeed install successfully using the QuickStart files. All is running well.

I am wondering if it is possible to have the grid of images that is on the homepage of the Grid 3 Template, be images of screenshots of different videos and then when you select the specific image rather than a large image appear in the Lightbox effect, a youtube video would appears instead.

This client produces and appears in many news videos and I would like to use this as a way to present her material.

If not, can I simply have each image link to a single article that houses all the videos.
A href rather than showing the large image.

Cool template BTW.

Thanks

Hi John,

Glad you like this design - I'm quite fond of it too :)

The best way to do that is to use K2 and use the option to display K2 video in the lightbox. So you just need to add the video via the K2 media tab and then set the module accordingly and it should do what you need.

Hello,

Per anthony I was told to use K2. How do I instal K2 and where do i find it.

I installed the Quickstart for the Grid3 template. I see no K2 options other than it says the K2 is not installed.

Clarification please.

Thanks

Also, what can i do to speed up this site? The load time is up to a minute and I have a very fast connection. even in the admin section it takes a very long time to load a module. Is this because I used the Quickstart package?

Other templates I have used form you load fine.

Hi,

K2 is a 3rd party component by joomlaworks, you can download it at getk2.org

Site speed is dependant on many things, not just your connection.
If the site in in poor quality hosting and cannot send the data fast enough then your connection is irrelevant.

Inside the template make sure development mode is off and compile the less files to css (cuts down on stylesheet requests and size)
Set to optimise css to yes

Enable the joomla cache and gzip in global configuration.

You can make further optimizations at hosting level.

The usual culprit for slow loading sites is image size. Make sure you do not have excessive ammounts of large images and allways compress them for the web (there is an online tool here www.smush.it)

Rob

Hello yet again,

Per this thread

Is it possible to have the grid image link to a video that is housed on youtube and have that play in the light box popup? If not then do i add the videos to my server in the K2 media folder and if so how do I make the image link to the video.

Sorry, i am bit confused.

Thanks

Just to say I also have this problem so I think something has gone awry. I have installed other t3 templates in the past on other test sites, so it's not just that I haven't done it before. I am now going to use the Quick Start package instead but would have preferred to be able to do my own 'controlled' install

Hi Paul
Thanks for the very speedy response. I definitely did have it enabled as I actively checked that. I have successfully implemented the quick pack now (as per the original responder).
It might be worth you checking a quick from-scratch install as there have been two of us. I'll not pretend I'm infallible though, especially with J3 which I am persisting with for my own good...
The T3 plugin link from the download page goes to somewhere not too helpful, that might be where the trouble starts? Joomla Arts requested a logon from that page, but wouldn't let me register, so I had to go rooting about.
Thanks!

Thanks for the update

You are right the link does need to be replaced / changed as the T3 framework now has its own home to download from

t3-framework.org/

I will also check the quickstart

Thanks again for your feedback

Cheers

The quick start seemed fine Paul, not a problem (and very useful I might add!!)
It was when I (tried) to install using all the different parts that I fell apart!
Hope you get paid for working Sundays!

Hi PAul,

So as to my original question. I want to be able to have the images on the homepage of my site in the nice grid open up in lightbox a youtube video. I think it is possible but I see no way to connect the image to a youtube link that will show up in the pop up lightbox window. I am sure I am missing something.

My site is: www.kristensimoes.com/dev/

Thanks mucho

You can change the image link to point to the youtube video in the code, currently it's pointing to www.kristensimoes.com/dev/images/video_captures/Celebrity%20Interviews.jpg for example....

That is not an option in your Zen Tools grid interface. I have the link option set to Lightbox. That allows the image to show in a lightbox. When using that option there is no place that I can see that I can add a link to a youtube video.

What are the actual settings to have a image in your grid open a lighbox window that shows a video from youtube?

Can this actually be done or do i need to add the videos to my media folder?

Thanks

you are speaking of the link I sent as an example? Perhaps not as a pop up feature as the images, however linking is possible if source code is redirected to the youtube video. The method that calls the image in the source code must be changed to point to the Video instead of the image. Or unless you have ffmpeg installed on your server, you can run the video directly from your server.
