Using Grid3 Quickstart package

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

This is my first time using a JoomlaBamboo Quickstart package.

I just did a one-click install of Joomla! 3.1.5 on this website:
sedinaz.org/dev/

I've logged into the backend. I want to now install Grid3. My understanding is that all I need for that installation is to go to the Extension Manager, choose the Grid3 Quickstart zip file, wait for the upload to finish, and ... then what? I thought it Grid3 would appear in the template list to choose to be the default, but it is not showing up.

I had walked away during the first upload, so I thought I missed something. So I tried to upload it again. Went to 100%, indicated it was :waiting to contact sedinaz.org/dev, and then... nothing.

I looked in the backend, through FTP, in the templates folder... nothing there.

Please advise!

Hi

During the installation process of the quickstart did you install the sample data?

For the quickstart this step includes the demo data, extensions and template

All that happened when I tried to upload the Quickstart zip file is exactly as I described it. Nothing came up to ask me anything.

Fishing around in the admin, I came upon this:

The PHP temporary directory is not set
The PHP temporary directory is the directory that PHP uses to store an uploaded file before Joomla! can access this file. Whilst the directory not being set isn't always a problem, if you are having issues with manifest files not being detected or uploaded files not being detected, setting this in your php.ini file might fix the issue.
Could this be why it isn't even showing up?

I tried to check online forums. Couldn't figure out what they were saying.

In my backend FTP, I don't find a php.ini file to even try to modify.

Help!

OK, your screenshot was nowhere in my Joomla installation, so I tried to figure this out.

I UNZIPPED your Quickstart - and found an entire installation of Joomla! there! I had already completed a one-click install of Joomla! 3.1.5 before trying to use the Quickstart package.

This is my first time trying to use a Quickstart. I tried to research what a Quickstart IS on the JoomlaBamboo site, but couldn't find a Search, tried the forum - couldn't find anything on Quickstarts, gave up.

So, I just tried to upload the Quickstart in the Extensions Manager and nothing happened... thus my inquiry began.

SO, I just went through installing all the individual parts you say are needed on JoomlaBamboo's Grid3 downloads. I have successfully installed and activated:
JB Type
ZenSocial
ZenTools
JB Library
T3

Please take a look at the site now:
sedinaz.org/dev/

Is this what I'd expect, given that I do not have sample data?

And, if so, is there a way I can install the Sample Data for Grid3, even though I couldn't use the Quickstart?

Yep that is pretty much what I'd expect

Did you see this article for the installation?

docs.joomlabamboo.com/getting-started/how-to-install-the-quickstart-package

This is for 2.5 version but its the same steps just slightly different screenshot

The screenshot I added is me actually installing the J3 version locally

You can read the difference between a quickstart and a standard template here

docs.joomlabamboo.com/getting-started/what-is-the-difference-between-a-joomla-template-and-the-quickstart-packages

In a nutshell

The quickstart contains Joomla it requires you to extract all the quikcstart files to an empty folder and then run the normal Joomla installer process

You can't install a quickstart into an existing version of Joomla

No. As I mentioned, no Search on the main JoomlaBamboo site; searching for Quickstart in the forum got me nowhere. How would I have found your link?

Anyway, I am trying to get going, configuring from scratch, but ThemeMagic will not respond to any change I am making/saving. The Layout is not showing like your documentation shows:
docs.joomlabamboo.com/joomla-templates/grid3-documentation

I am inclined to scrap this and use your Quickstart all new on a new folder installation, but you seem to be using Joomla! 3.0? The latest Joomla is apparently 3.1.5? I'd have to deal with that update after using the Quickstart?

Please advise. I appreciate your trying to help so far.

I would suggest re-installing to an empty folder

The template is compatible with the latest Joomla version

It just requires an update via the Joomla update component

I'd also suggest installing the template and t3 version that you have already downloaded once the quickstart is installed and set up to make sure its up to date

www.sedinaz.org/dev2/

A happier place I wish I reached 8 hours ago.

I then installed the template and t3 version that I downloaded once the quickstart was installed, enabled the JB Library (modules were enabled) but then the two menus with submenus are sticking open -??

I didn't upload your latest of these after the Quickstart:
JB Type
ZenSocial
ZenTools
JB Library

Should I?

Before I try an update Joomla install to Joomla! 3.1.5, I want to make sure I have this Quickstart right.

You only need jblibrary installed if you need to manage a jquery loading problem in Joomla 3 - so at this stage I'd disable it

But the other 3 yes I would install the latest

Yes. Uploaded last module updates. Set the menus per your screenshot. Take a look. I think I am finally ready to roll!

Thank you!
