Zen tools, accentued chars in files names

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

HI,
I use Zen tools module in your template Ascent. All software joomla, ascent, zen tool etc are up to date.

I use the module as a "slideshow", in french. so to display title, the file names have accentued characters in they names.
It works well in local with my mac and MAMP.

Online in my provider, the english slideshow works well, but the french one show pictures with broken link (blue little icons).

Any ideas to solve this ?
My site is on CentOS 6, or Oracle 6.

Thanks,
Olivier

Yes,
here is a slideshow with files with accented chars in file names.
www.conservatoires.org/index.php/fr/?option=com_content&view=article&id=129

Here is the same slideshow but where I removed all the accented chars.
www.conservatoires.org/index.php/fr/

Thanks

Ah yes it's trying to encode the accents like this:

www.conservatoires.org/images/slideshowFRbug/1a-Etablissements+multiples-Ecole+simple,+communaut%EF%BF%BD+agglom%EF%BF%BDrations.jpg

Can you perhaps rename the file using html entities to see if that fixes the issue?

Thanks

Hi there,

You need to use the html version of those characters, like those in this list: webdesign.about.com/od/localization/l/blhtmlcodes-fr.htm, though this is not 100% reliable in all environments.

The best advice is to simply avoid using accented characters in filenames though.

Hi Seth,
I tryed é and %EF, in one image, same a question mark and empty file appears.

I'll have to turn to an other type of slideshow ?
But I like Zen tools, an other idea ?

Cheers

Not sure that there is a work around for this actually. The browser should convert the html entities properly so Im not sure why it's not.

The only other way would be to use content as a source but ther eis no way at the moment to give titles to the slides other than via the image titles at this stage.

Thanks

Ok,
just for your information, then.

When I use my site in local, MAMP, and Safari it is perfect, on my distant one, problem.
So, this is not a browser issue.

Thanks

I believe that this is actually a problem with web server configuration and the way it handles accented characters. I am afraid that there is very little we could do about it :(

As you can see, ZenTools works correctly with file names containing accented characters (works on local MAMP environment)
