Sharing photos with link to an actual page.

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi,

I have just added a facebook share button to some of my photos and if somebody clicks on the photo in facebook it takes them to this:

fancybirdphoto.com/images/Gallery/Categories/Birds/Masked-Trogon-female-Trogon-personatus.jpg

When I share a photo on facebook I need the photo to be linked to an actual page like below:
fancybirdphoto.com/images/Gallery/Categories/Birds/Masked-Trogon-femaleTrogon-personatus.jpg

When I added the above link (manually) to the masonry layout and tried to share the photo it says 404 category not found.

What is the best approach to do this

Please help.

Hi Jorge,

You now have 2 forum posts and 1 ticket on the same issue. Can you please respond in the ticket?

The like button within an item will always use the item link, and since you are linking to an image in a ligthbox, the link for the image is used in the share button.

To share the current page, it would be better to turn off the like/share button in the zentools output, and add one directly to your page.

Regards,

Rob

Hi Rob,

Sorry for that, from now on I will use the same post if my questios are related.

Pretty much what you are saying is to add the photo to an article and then share the article on facebook instead of sharing the photo only. If this is the case, I have gone through global configuration and through your template's settings and nowhere I can add a share button on an article.

The other way that I have tried is adding a photo to zentools2 slideshow in a new menu item. I then choose "No link" or "Content" on the image settings and I added the share button. When I do this and I try sharing the photo, it says 404 no category found.

Please help

HI Jorge,

The 404 issue should have been fixed in your previous ticket?

The template has options for a sharing icon, but not a standard facebook like/share button. You would need to have a look on the Joomla extensions directory for a plugin to add social sharing buttons to articles.

Hi Rob,

I went to the following link:

bambootheme.com/showcase/apr16/zentools/zentools2/zentools-grid

If you scroll down to "Maximum 4 column grid" you will find an example of exactly what I am looking for, there are independent photos with facebook like and share button.

1) If you click the photo it opens a bigger version of the photo.

2) If you click the share button, the photo will appear in facebook and if you click on the photo that has been shared in facebook it will take you to the actual page as seen bellow:

bambootheme.com/showcase/apr16/services-2/7-services-1

This is exactly what I am looking for. I want a gallery with a number of photos. Each photo could be clicked to open a bigger version but if you click the share button, I want the link on the photo that has been shared on facebook to take you to an actual page.

Why is this not working with my template?

You are suggesting me to go find another plug-in but I dont see the point of doing so if your zentools2 options offers exactly what I am looking for.

I have tried to setup this on a the following masonry layout:
fancybirdphoto.com/gallery/birds

but it is not working.

Please help thanks

Hi Jorge,

Are you on the latest version of the module?

With the plugin we are referring to articles not the images in the module - sorry for any confusion in that regard
