Zen menu : how to display submenu items by default?

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi folks,
I have a sidebar zen menu and I want the third menu item to display its submenu items by default. In other words I want this menu item to be expanded by default.

I can't seem to figure out how.
Cheers,
G

Hi G,

Does this mean you don't want the first two links to always be expanded?

Cheers

Hi Paul,
Somewhat... In this menu, one of my menu items, which happens to be the third, has submenu items. I want tthose to be expanded/shown by default when this sidebar menu is displayed.

Link:
theneighbourhoodclinic.com/conditions-treated

look at the sidebar ... Massage Services.

Hi G,

I think you could do this but it would mean all menu items were expanded on every parent link - would that be a problem?

Hi Paul,
This would not be ideal but could work for a while since currently there is only one menu item with submenus.

1. How would I do this?
2. Is the only canned option to to expand only the first menu item? or are there other option settings I'm not aware of?

Cheers,
Gilles

Hi Giles,

This is what Joomla can do rather than the template - I'd perhaps look on the Joomla Extension Directory to see if there is anything that will suit you better

ah OK.
I wasn't aware it was a Joomla function, thought there was a setting in the menu (mega menu) to control this.

I guess I'll have to move that menu item to the top if I want it to expand by default when the module is displayed.

Too bad.

Hi Giles,

The mega menu is only the main menu not the sidebar I'm afraid

Good luck with it

I meant "zen menu" but the answer is likely the same :(

Talking about this with Anthony it may be possible to do this using css if you target the div

.item-58 ul {display:block !important}

Thanks for digging deeper on this one Paul. It "works" but.... the user can't collapse the submenus and the +/- icon becomes confusing as the user can not collapse the menu, leaving the user scrathing their head as to what the icon is for.

Unless you have another idea, I'll have to tell my client they can't have the menu in alphabetic order as I 'll need to move this expandable menu at the top to force it to be expanded on page load.

By the way, I have another project coming up and was wondering when the next template will be released? Ideas?
