Override blocks at Grid Framework v4

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hello,

with t3 framework we used to place overrides at the folder local/.....path.

Now with Grid Framework v4 where we should place block overrides so we wont loose changes after any update.

thanks

Hi Paul,

I wanted to add some php code to footer and main-contain.

I did try to overide them by creating the local folder and placing the file in the same path. For example

/xero/local/tpls/blocks/footer.php instead of the /xero/tpls/blocks/footer.php

How can we make the overides so as not to loose them in a template update?

Thanks

Hi there,

Thats not possible with ZGFv4.

The way I have designed it is that you can create a new default.php file - eg duplicate the existing tpls/default.php and add your changes there. eg add code directly to that file or load new blocks.

Once you have duplicated the default.php file it will show as an option int he templates layout panel.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I hadn't realized while reading the documentation.

May I also ask if I want to make changes to Joomla's core, and place them in the template html (standard Joomla html override folder), will my mods remain after an update?

Thanks again in advanced.

Hi,

The themes do come with some template overrides so you would need to create alternative layouts.

It's the same thing but with a different filename.

So if you wanted to change the article default layout you can copy
html/com_content/article/default.php
to
html/com_content/article/newfilename.php

And then in the article global options you can select newfilename to be the default layout.

Regards,

Rob
