PHP error on homepage related to zen grid

Because first I got a message from Akeeba Backup that my 5.3 version of php was out of date, I tried to switch to 5.4 by asking for help from my hosting provider. I now have an error message on the top of the home page and all the backend pages (in the admin).

"Strict Standards: Only variables should be assigned by reference in /home/mainefiberarts/www/www/plugins/system/zengridframework/zengridframework.php on line 32"

So do I even need this zengrid framework now that I'm using the Sidewinder template that uses bootstrap and T3? It used to be required when I was using the Grid2 template. Can I just uninstall it or delete it or update it or???

Can you recommend a fix for this?

Hi Carol,

You can delete it as you are not using it

Thank you. My hosting company switched me back to php5.3 which got rid of the error message and a bunch of other problems, and they think "something in the Joomla installation" isn't compatible with the newer features of the 5.4 version of php. Do you know if Joomla 3.4.1 will fix anything related to php versions? I suppose I should check for template updates here too. But since the latest version of Akeeba backup says I should be using php 5.5 (which I can't get yet), I'm not sure a backup I make will be correct, although I have to have a backup before I update Joomla to a newer version that might be compatible with php 5.4. You see my dilemma.

Hi Pam,
Those errors are actually just notices and turning off error reporting should do prevent them from displaying.

Thanks
