Which Template should I use and can you help?

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Dear Paul et al.
home_page.jpg

My husband is the president of an international society with over 1600 members. We are currently at one of its conferences in Boston

cytoconference.org/2017/Home.aspx

I am on the website task force. They would like to create a new website to replace their current one.

isac-net.org/

They would like a quote from me as an option. However, the mock-up (created by me which is attached)

requires three menus: an upper right hand menu with drop downs, a main menu with drop downs and a large footer with columns of links..

My question for you.

Could any of your joomla templates be used to create a site with all three menus?

And

Could I pay you for your expertise with extra joomla bamboo services if I should get into technical difficulties implementing this site?

Please see the attached home page mock-up.

As always thank you so much for your help in the past and your help in the future.

Hi Elizabeth,

I'll talk to the team when they are online - are you sure about the dropdown menu from the top?

Do you have any idea how many links would be in the top menu for the drop downs?

Do you have any plans/thoughts for integrating both menus on different devices?

That is a very good point that I had not thought of. Is there a way of doing that? If it just seems too problematic, i might have to convince them to rearrange. They have an awful lot of content to deal with.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Elizabeth,

I'd check to see how similar sites have managed their content

Creating the normal menu and the columns should be relatively simple to implement

But this amount of content needs to be planned really carefully as it would really influence the design

Cheers

Ok there was one site that did have drop downs in the upper right. I will text it on a cell phone. Thanks for your input.

You're welcome

I'd plan for mobile first on the mock ups given the amount of content you have to organise

Thanks Paul,

I have been traveling.. I will get back to you today or tomorrow with more information on the project...

They want a quote from me.. in the meantime would you recommend a template if the top menu had not dropdowns only the main menu. But the footer would have to have columns. My favorite template so far has been responsive2. Let me know if you want me to send the mock-up again. (It was attached to the first post in this thread)

Thanks Again.

Dear Paul,

I think that I have narrowed it down to three templates based on the necessity for:

1. A banner image and slide show to extend the full width of the page
2. The necessity for a main men and an upper right menu (will encourage them to not have drop downs there.
3. The necessity for a multicolumn footer (Newstream2 shows this; can the others have it?)
4. I am choosing Joomla Bamboo as opposed to other template cos. because you have been so helpful to me.

Please see the attached image of templates and the mockup
templatechoices.jpg

Medical, Newstream2 and New Lifestyle.

Questions: which one would be the best fit?
Are some to old to use? I am not used to Buildr and would be uncomfortable using it for this sized project.
Do you have extra services that I can pay for in case trouble-shooting is needed?

Thanks so much for your help. I will look forward to your reply.

Hi Elizabeth,

I would suggest not using T3 for a couple of reasons

1. They are older templates
2. They are less flexible with moving positions around
3. Performance isn't as good

I appreciate Buildr is more complex to use than T3 or Medica but does have much more flexibility

From that list I would use medica but my personal preference would be to try buildr

We do offer custom support blocks that can be purchased on a per hour basis

1. Yes - with medica and buildr being more flexible in this regard

2. Yes - the problem would be having two drop down menus - no template has this built in

3. Any template could do the multi column footer

4. thanks - you are welcome :)

Cheers

Hello again,

Ok, for instance would it be easy to make the Koan Buildr template have the top portion with the menu and logo and the slide show extend the full page width with no great on either side (documentation instructions on this?)
and then turn the One page example and more area into the top menu with no dropdowns.

demo.joomlabamboo.com/index.php?theme=apr16

thank you very much.

Hi Elizabeth,

Can I just check what you mean with

"top portion with the menu and logo and the slide show extend the full page width with no great on either side"

"..with no great on either side"

Having a one page template in a multi-page site doesn't work well but I'm not clear what you are trying to do on this one

Can you elaborate a little?
