Image resize problem with mod_captifyContent

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hello,

I have a problem with mod_captifyContent.

As you can see in the right sidebar at this link:

coop.bewe.it/index.php?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&layout=category&task=category&id=168&Itemid=61

the quality of resized images is really bad even if category images are bigger or the same size of resize parameters (140x100px). I tried to change image resize parameters, but nothing changed...

Could anyone help me in solving this issue?
Thanks

Are the pictures all the same size originally before being re-sized?

Hi Paul,

images have different sizes but always bigger than 140x100px.
I also tried to upload a category image with exact size of 140x100px but nothing changed..

Thanks a lot for your support.

Hi Giovanni,

Unfortunately, K2's image resizing is pretty poor. I would suggest using correctly sized images in your item introtext instead.

I´ve got the same problem. Image resize settings are 210x201px and all my pictures are the same size - 452x300 px. So, what´s the problem?
If I change picture size to 210x201px then the captify Content shows all resized images but quality goes bad.

Look at here: www.jaagotalu.eu

Thank you,
Hope You can help me.

Hi

I can't currently see the pics on the front page

On the articles I suggest converting to jpg if they are all photos without transparent backgrounds

Downsampling the jpgs will make the filesize a lot smaller but without noticable reduction in quality

That´s the problem - no pics on the front page and I don´t know why?
I converted all article pictures to .jpg format and nothing changed.

Hi

Sorry you mis-understood me
- using jpgs was just to get your site to load faster and not to do with the issue on non-loading images.

I see you've got images loaded but I'm guessing you want the quality to improve? As it stands these images are enlarged - which frequently makes images look soft or blurred.

With the photos I'd suggest having images sized as portrait or landscape in the site and not both - also try to have sizes that are easy numbers to divide e.g. 250, 200, 300, 150 etc

Not sure how well I've explained this
Cheers

Hi,
It's good to know the jpg issue but still I'm not able to use large pictures :(
I added one picture (with size 400x300) in all articles and no result. No images on front page.
If I use picture with size 200x200 in all articles then I'll see images on front page but terrible quality - small pictures are enlarged.

It's really odd!

Hi there,

It looks like a permission issue on the cache folder: you dont have gd2 installed on your server.

Unable to open '/home/np48518/domains/jaagotalu.eu/public_html/media/plg_jblibrary/imagecache/17b3c0febe730a21e0d03dee296c1a3a.jp

Can you check the permissions on that folder and change it until it is writable. If 777 is the only setting that will make it writable then you may need to change the ownership on the folder there.

Let us know what you find.

Thank you for your help :)
The folder had 644 permission and I changed it to 777 and all pictures appeared :)

But I used the same image in all articles and now I would like to change image addresses. Somehow new images don´t appear on the front page.
How´s this possible that I don´t have gd2 installed? I use grid2 template and captifyContent module works but only with small pictures. Do I have to reinstall something?

Hi there,

GD is a php function used to process images:

www.php.net/manual/en/intro.image.php

If you don't have it installed on your web server you will need to ask your host to enable that for you.
