I work with a lot of artists and art galleries. I love Zentools, but I get very frustrated with the system of naming the image files in order to have image titles/captions.

For example, for the slideshow I just updated on this page:

I had to fuss with the image title in order to get it to fit. Here is the image title for the second image that the gallery sent me (I had to modify it to fit the slideshow):

It would be wonderful if there were some way to have
1. more text
2. multiple lines of text (with line breaks)
3. formatting of text (e.g. image title in italics or bold)
4. ability to use characters such as /, #, etc. in the image captions

Ive added your suggestions to the feature list for v2 of Zentools and will let you know how we get on.

Up until now we have had to rely upon a work around for providing that and as you know it has it's limitations.

I'll look to see if we can create some sort of json array or something that can hold that extra data.

Here's an example: an artist website with a gallery, slideshow, and image captions:

Image captions show up when you mouse over the image in the slideshow. The painting title is italicized, and the image format is uncluttered so that you see only the work of art. This particular artist's work looks really nice against the black background, too.

This is the type of format that many artists seem to want. (The entire website - I've had three artists ask me for this type of format in the past few months.)

I would love if Zen Tools could do this!

Yep that looks great - thanks for the example.

Here's another art website that handles images and captions very nicely (of course its purpose is to showcase works of art): artsy.net/artist/diego-rodriguez-warner

1. Images are in a gallery format, kind of like large thumbnails, with uniform height
2. When you click on images, you go to a page with just that image and caption/sale information on the right side in a column
3. When you click on the image again, you have the option to zoom on details

Looks great ... but in Joomla that kind of thing is really a component. So handling multiple pages, artist pages etc.

Would love to turn Zentools into something like that but at this stage I cant see it happening in the near future. But I agree - it's a very nice UX.

I figured that it might be too much, but thought I'd send it over anyway.

So here is another artist gallery - this one very simple: davidhornung.com/paintings

I like that:
1. Thumbnail images display vertical instead of horizontal (would be a nice option)
2. Image captions are displayed on separate lines (title, date, medium, size)
3. Thumbnails display actual dimensions of paintings (uniform width but variable height without cropping the image)
4. Minimal navigation items display in slideshow for a clean look that doesn't distract from the images - only left/right arrows, arrow and "x" in upper right corner, and image captions, as well as a very small and discreet slide number in lower right corner
