Hi,

I discovered the Firefox add-on FireBug as a very helpful addendum for Firefox.

It shows exactly what part of what CSS-file is responsible for the way all elements are displayed, what scripts are loaded, what alements are present in the DOM, etcetera etcetera.

A must for web developers! Have a look at it at:

I also think Firebug is an awesome tool, *but* it caused me one hell of a headache on a site I built using the Plugin Googlemapsextensions.joomla.org/extensions/external-contents/maps/1147/details

When loading a page with a map, my browser would just hang at 'waiting for gg.googlemaps.com'. The page would never load. It took me a long time to finger Firebug as the cause. The site loaded fine in IE, and fine from my wife's machine (FF without Firebug). Switching off Firebug did not even resolve it, I had to disable it entirely. Once that was done the site loaded again without issue.

To test, I renabled and that broke my site again.

Firebug - love it, but it breaks some things!!

Another outstanding FF app is, Web Developer 1.1.8 (addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/60). Adds a menu and a toolbar with various web developer tools.

Yes Ive noticed that gmail warns the site might be slow if you have firebug installed.

Just wanted to provide an update on this;

A recent upgrade to firebug has resolved the issue I was previously having with google mapping, yay!

I have no problem at all now with FB and agree that it should be considered a must-have for all...

Firebug and the WebDeveloper add-on for Firefox
The colorzilla and fireFTP add-on as well maybe.
A good code editor and/or IDE (Notepad++ and NetBeans for me)

You're sorted for web development with these. (not design)

This is also the reason it is very hard for me to leave firefox for another browser.

The firebug code has now been integrated into Chrome (and chromium).
just go to tools > developper tools.
