I don't know where or how to ask this question, but here it is...

I need to set up a couple of e-commerce sites...was planning on using Virtuemart, but have taken a big step back from fear development may be lagging at the moment...after seeing Shop Ignition template, I am considering Red Shop, maybe even Ayel Shop (open cart) integration. Red Shop free looks nice, but I am assuming I can't make a serious site without the full developer package of well over $300. I am new to e-commerce and if I can avoid a few blunders along the way, I would like to listen to anyone has something to say.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Yep with Redshop you will to need to purchase the 12month developer license to get the most from Redshop

Tienda is an option but it only works on 1.5 - there is a test 1.7 version but when it will arrive I don't know

I know people have tried hikashop and found it ok but I've not used it myself

Virtuemart has a new version released recently so can't really comment on that but the previous version I hated

Just an update...I started experimenting with AyelShop, now taken over by JoomAce and called AceShop. It integrates joomla with open cart and it looks like a keeper. I will be working on 2 sites trying this out. I was thinking it would be a candidate for a specialized JoomlaBamboo template. You guys know better than I would but I thought it was worth bringing up.

Ive heard good things about Ayel shop but haven't had a chance to look any further into it.

It's on my list to take a deeper look.
