unzip folder on remote server

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hello!
I'm ready to upload my first joomla site and replace it with my current html one. I created a zip file, imported my database, but I don't see an unzip option on my host site. How can I unzip my htdocs folder on the remote server? Help please...
Many thanks

Have you tried Akeeba backup?

I use this to transfer any site in combination with the akeeba kickstart file

The backup core is free
I can't recommend it enough :)

Thanks Paul! I backed up my site with akeebabackup, but to extract the file it's not working. I get error messages such as the README file is not found.

You are using the files from the kickstart to extract? -

e.g. path to the site and kickstart.php

I have the .jpa file on my root folder, as well as the kickstart.php. I go to to my site/kickstart.php.

I tried with ftp or direct and I get error messages.

I've not seen this error myself have you checked out the documentation/tutorials

Are all the permissions set correctly in the original site?

The temporary directory is not writable. Please check the permissions.

Hi

Does this help?

www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/kscantextract.html

I'd also talk to the host for advice

I guess I was able to check the permission for the temp folder and now it's extracting. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you so much for your help all along.

It's a nightmare. I can't get to extract the files. Some are done. Then I get error messages. Should I just upload the files directly, without using the zipped archive?

With the jpa file are you running it through the kickstart and in the kickstart process it shows errors?

Yes. I contacted my host on chat. They told me to switch to a different server system. I did, and now I'm retrying the same process. Hopefully it will work. Thanks.

Hello,
I was in vacation for a couple of weeks. My joomla site is online, but not really. I kept the old html site and put the joomla site in a folder, but I can't figure out how to redirect. I don't want to get rid of the html site yet. The joomla site is in a folder called "new"

Thanks for your help!

Hi Paul,
My host is very lousy :-(( I don't get much help. I tried something myself and it worked at first, but then I got a "fatal error" message (Fatal error: Call to undefined function imagecreatefromgif() in /home/alinamn/public_html/modules/mod_zentools/includes/imageresize.php on line 68)
What I did was I changed the names of the folders: public_html to p and new to public_html and I had a moment of glory!
