compatibility with modern and future Joomla versions

Hey there,

Could someone clarify the issue of compatibility with various versions of Joomla? The most recent templates (e.g. MaxBiz2) explicitly list Joomla 3.0 compatibility. Slightly older (e.g. Ecospirit) only list through 2.5. Is a template like Ecospirit compatible with J3.0/3.1? More significantly, will they be compatible with J3.5 when it's released? In less than a year, Joomla 2.5 will no longer be supported, so I'm hesitant to design a site today if the template will last less than a year...

Thanks in advance for any clarification you can provide.

Hi John,

Basically all of our J2.5 templates will eventually be updated to Joomla 3.0. The process is taking a lot longer than expected but they will become J3 compatible by the time J3.5 is out.

There is one issue however in that the shift from 2.5 to 3 for non T3 themes might be a little bumpy so at this stage we are advising folks to use J3 themes that are currently compatible with J3. They will continue to be updated as Joomla moves through the minor releases until the J3 series becomes stable.

It wont be impossible to move from older J2.5 themes to T3 J3 themes but it may well be just a little more work.

Hope that helps.
