I have a question concerning the module assignment. I would like to choose to show different modules when I choose to show an article belonging to a given category. Is it possible to do so?

Yes you could create links for individual articles and then assign modules to them

So you'd create a hidden menu and add them to that - then add modules to those links

or perhaps you could take a look at
