1. I'd like to adjust the height of the banner area and the slideshow currently set up in that position. Would I change the css for that? If so, where would I find it?

2. Can I set the slides to link to a menu item?

With 1 if you adjust the image size in the slideshow module it should be both for you

Looking at the file names do they all have spaces in? - I'd suggest removing them if that is the case - it can cause problems

You can set the image to load from content so it takes the image from the page content or if using a directory you can follow this method
