QuickStart vs. Template Files

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi,
I am new to JoomlaBamboo and just downloaded Strata. I am pretty good with Joomla, what I don't understand is if I have joomla loaded on the server and I uploaded the template (not the quickstart) how can I get the template to look like the preview on your site? Do I have to go through the QuickStart? Would I uninstall what I have already done? This will give you an idea of where I am. www.tonicarr.com/test2010/index.php

I have also installed about 5 of the plugins/modules. Activated by not configured.

Thanks

Hey there,

The Quickstarts come with Joomla and other extensions bundled in it. The sample data in it also has dummy articles we create and settings for modules and plugins.
You do not seem to have any content besides the default sample data which comes with Joomla so the easiest way for you to set it up like the demo would be to install the quickstart.
Cheers,
Jason.

No worries :)
And trust me, that is the easy way, The other method involves handling a lot of sql and copying over module, plugins and images.

Cheers,
Jason.

The QuickStart worked perfectly :) .

A couple of issues. I have to upgrade to joomla 1.5.15, since it is 1.5.14, no prob. I can do just an FYI.
Also on the template config. control panel, I do not have a theme width option. All options appear to be there except the width. So... I will have to change it in the css. Can you tell me where this is in the CSS?

I think this will be a fun template.

Thanks!

Hi Toni,

Actually Strata didnt ship with any extra width settings. When it gets ported to the Zen Grid Framework it will have this option. For now editing the css should be fine.

Thanks Anthony

Umm sorry forgot to add:

The width is actually set as a template variable. Open the index.php file and look for:

$templateWidth = $this->params->get("templateWidth","980px");

And change the 980px to your width. Som of the images will need to be edited to fit the new width.

Thanks Anthony

Thanks Anthony you saved me a lot of time. I am not worried about the image (at least not yet) they will change.

I like the Zen Grid, I almost went with that template, but wanted the bells and whistles in Strata.

Keep up the good work.

Toni :)

Hi.
I would also like to ask a relevant question. I want to use the Grid template.
I load the Quickstart files, and the template width is 980. I've checked it in the template settings.
But the width of Grid template in demo.joomlabamboo.com/ is even less.
How can I make my site have the width of Grid as in demo?
Thank you in advance

Hey there,

The template width in the demo is also set to 980px. I'm not sure whether or why you are seeing a difference.
In the template parameters for Grid (Extensions->Template Manager), you can reduce that width to either 920px or 860px.
Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Jason.

Hi Dianysma,

I just double-checked the demo site and can confirm that the width there is 980px, so not entirely sure what is happening on your site.

I notice that your site has been taken down now, so I can't check it. Let us know when it is back up and I will gladly take a look.

Cheers

Sadly I made that change and it did not change the width.
$templateWidth = $this->params->get("templateWidth","930px");

Could it be the images that are not letting it change?

Thanks,
Toni

Hi Toni,

You do not actually make any changes in the html. That is only a default value and will not be picked up.

You need to change it in the template manager
Extensions->Template Manager-> JB Grid
You should have 3 options in the template width dropdown.

They work in all my tests so try it out and let me know.

Cheers,
Jason.

Hi Jason, I appreciate your reply but I am using template Strata and I do not have those options. I was told to revise the index.php file you will see above, but when I do the width remains. Which you have alluded to in your reply. I am wondering now if it is in the CSS?

Thanks,
Toni

Hey Toni,

I seem to have assumed that you were using the Grid template.

Strata does not have proper support for different template widths. But if you are changing the width in the index.php file, make sure you also edit the params.ini file and change it there as well.
Let us know how it works.

Cheers,
Jason.

Hi Jason,
That worked but it screws up a lot of other stuff on the template. Most likely because it is designed for a larger layout. The gallery is all jumbled and I think there is some tiling of background images going on. I will figure it out. If interested you can see it here www.tonicarr.com/strata2010/

Thanks for the help.

Hey Toni,

You will need to resize this image
www.tonicarr.com/strata2010/templates/JB_Strata/images/bg.png
Remove the required amount of whitespace from the centre. Do not scale the entire image down.

Also, you will need to adjust the slideshow offsets to position it correctly again and also the Bamboo Box widths.

That should fix it for you but I've probably missed something. So test your pages after those changes and let us know.

Cheers,
Jason.

Hello,
I just signed up for a membership based on the great materials I see here, and I definitely look forward to setting up my sites with JoomlaBamboo templates. Everything here looks wonderful.

OK, I've got good experience installing and configuring templates using various types of "quick launch" setups, so I'm good with doing this. With that said, I have to admit, I am completely confused about all the files and options for installing Bamboo templates.

My goal: install Avanti, with all the associated Bamboo modules and the third-party extensions, but I don't want the sample data.

I've tried the quicklaunch, the snapshot core, the snapshot plus, the template snapshot, and the template files. Nothing seems to do it. I've read the documentation, but I am still not quite sure what I'm supposed to do.

Can someone please explain which option I'm supposed to use to accomplish this?

I'm sure this is simple, and I am overlooking something!

Thanks,
Matthew
