Hi - I'm about to update an old site from J2.5.8 to J3.

The site is currently using JB Responsive template - I can't see a version number.

Is Responsive2 an update to this template? If so, am I safe to use it instead of the current template?

Hi Ian,

Yes and No

Responsive2 is a new template and not an update of Responsive it looks the same

You would need to move a few positions as required

For update purposes see it as a entirely new template

With it being Joomla 2.5.8 I'd make sure to update to the latest Joomla 2.5 version before jumping to J3+ and plenty of backups along the way

Hi Paul - thanks for getting back to me.

I thought 2.5.8 was the final version… Is there a later one?

And will changing the template be a nightmare? Is'd sooner go with the later version but upgrading the Joomla bit is scaring me to death without doing the template as well. (I am working on a copy).

Sorry - it's 2.5.28, and Joomla update tells me it is the latest…

Yep 2.5.28 is the latest

As long as you are working away from the real site you can break stuff without serious problems

Changing the template shouldn't be a nightmare just a case of working through the module positions and the new template configuration

More features and speed is available using responsive 2 - so its worth it

Hi Paul - thanks for all this, it's really helpful.

I'm going through the extensions (I wish I had been tidier when I set this site up!) and I'm using two called pop any article and pop any module.

You can see how they work here www.financingfirst.co.uk, there's a grey panel on the right with links at the bottom which bring up various articles in a sort of lightbox window.

Can I replicate this using zentools or zentools 2 once the site is upgraded to J3?
